Corallo, University of Salento, Lecce – Italy Many classifications and taxonomies of knowledge management tools highlight mainly specific characteristics and features of a single tool, by ignoring the holistic and systematic dimension of the classification, and the explicit elements of linking with the knowledge management strategy This chapter aims at proposing a general framework that integrates the technological side of knowledge management with the strategic one Thus, this framework could represent a powerful instrument to guide knowledge engineers in the implementation phase of a knowledge management system, coherently with strategical choices for knowledge management Chapter is articulated in two main parts: the first one is focused on reminding some relevant approaches to knowledge software has become an important medium to connect people, bridge communities, and leverage collaborative knowledge creation and sharing In this chapter we explore how social software can support the building and maintaining of knowledge ecologies and discuss the social landscape within different social software mediated communities and networks 388 About the Contributors Miltiadis D Lytras is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department-CEID (University of Patras) His research focuses on semantic web, knowledge management and e-learning, with more than 100 publications in these areas He has co-edited / co-edits, 25 special issues in International Journals (e.g IEEE Transaction on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Internet Computing, IEEE Transactions on Education, Computers in Human Behaviour etc) and has authored/[co-]edited 12 books [e.g Open Source for Knowledge and Learning management, Ubiquitous and Pervasive Knowledge Management, Intelligent program coordinator for psychological foundations of education His published works ranges from basic theoretical articles on human learning to applied books on instructional design and technology.He is editor of the scientific journal, Computers in Human Behavior, published by Elsevier Science and now in its 17th year, as well as serving on several editorial boards for professional journals.  His research and publications include topics such as cognitive learning and complex cognitive processes, intelligent systems, complex-dynamic simulations, testing and measurement, instructional design, and advanced learning technologies. At the present time, he is working with a German colleague on basic research in learning complex-advanced knowledge His international activities include directing a NATO-sponsored advanced research workshop in Barcelona and a NATO advanced study institute in Grimstad, Norway—both on the topic of automated instructional design and delivery He has recently directed (RMSP) The RMSP conducts research and provides technical support to over 2,000 Corps of Engineers natural resource managers and rangers at over 450 sites nationwide Mr Jackson’s professional
