Giáo án Tiếng Anh Lớp 8 * Năm học 2007-2008* UNIT9: A FIRST-AID COURSE Lesson 1: Section: - Getting started - Listen and read I. Objectives : By the end of the lesson students will be able to know what they will do in the situations by reading for details about the situations which require first-aid. II. Language contents: - Structures: - Vocabulary: emergency room, sterile dressing, ambulance, bleed. III. Techniques: Kim’s game, gap -filling. IV. Teaching aids: a cassette player - pictures of activities in class-text book. I. Procedures : Teachers’ activities Students’ activities 1. Warm up: (5ms) Kim’s game : - Ask Ss to open their books and look at the things on page 80 for 20 seconds. - Ask Ss to tell some things used for first-aids. - Divide the class into two groups and ask Ss go to the board to write the names of the things they have just seen from memory. - Give the key: 1. emergency room 2. sterile dressing 3. medicated oil 4. ice 5. water pack 6. alcohol 2. Presentation: (15ms) - Show the picture and introduce the lesson. - Cal Ss to read the situations given and call Ss to give the first - aids. - Ask Ss to speak. - Correct and give the key: +A girl has a burn on her arm  cold water / ice to ease the pain. - Look at the things on page 80. Remember and work in groups to write the things in the picture. - Write on the BB. - Correct and copy. - Listen to the teacher. - Read the situations given and give the first –aids in groups. - Speak in front of the class. - Correct and copy. Trường THCS Ngô Gia Tự Tran- 1 - Week 19 (1) Date: Jan, 15 th to Jan, 20 th 2007 Period : 55 Giáo án Tiếng Anh Lớp 8 * Năm học 2007-2008* Teachers’ activities Students’ activities +A boy as a bad cut on his leg use alcohol/ medicated oil / sterile dressing. + A girl has a nose bleed  use a handkerchief to stop the bleeding / tell her to lie down. + A boy has a bee sting  use medicated oil. - Introduce the situation “ Lan’s friend fell off her bike and hid her head on the road .What would Lan do .Let’s study the dialogue. - Teach some vocabularies Vocabulary: - ambulance (n): (picture) -emergency (n) (Translation) -conscious: (Translation)= unconscious - bleed (v) (example) - wound (n) - pressure (n) (Translation) -fall asleep (v) (Translation) -awake (v) (Translation) -Sterile (a) (Translation) -promise (v) (Translation) - Have SS write new words in notebooks. Give the tape. 3. Practice : (10ms) - Ask Ss to read the dialogue in pairs - Ask some pairs to present in front of the class. - Ask Ss to write the emergency of Lan’s friend and first-aids for her. - Give the key. Lan’ friend fall down and had a cut on her head . The first aid : The nurse advised Lan to use a towel or a handkerchief to cover the wound and hold it tight. Finally take her to the hospital. - Ask Ss to read the dialogue again and select the topics covered in the dialogue ( page 81). - Tell Ss ( in groups to write their answers on a sheet of paper and hand in - Copy new words. - Repeat new words . - Listen to the tape . - Read the dialogue silently - Read the dialogue in pairs Some pairs present in front of the class. - Write the emergency of Lan’s friend and first-aids for her. Situation : First-aids: - Read the dialogue again and work in groups to select the topics covered in the dialogue. - Give the answer on BB. - Correct and copy . - Play the roles in pairs. - Read the dialogue again and work in groups to fill the missing words. Give the answer key: a,b,c,e,f, a. describing the condition of the injured person. b. asking for the dress. c. asking about the condition of the injured person e. giving first-aid instructions. f. arranging for an ambulance - Ask Ss to play the role in the dialogue and correct their pronunciation. 4. Production: (12ms) - Call SS to read the dialogue again and do gap filling in groups. “There was an emergency at Lan’s school. A student (1) off her bike and hit her head on the road. She was (2) but she cut her head and the (3) was (4) badly. Lan telephoned Bach Mai hospital and asked the nurse to send an (5)to Quang Trung School. Lan was asked to keep the student (6) while waiting for the ambulance” - Ask Ss to write the answer on BB . - Correct and give the key: 1. fell 2. conscious 3. cut 4. bleeding 5. ambulance 6. awake. 5. Homework: (3ms) - Ask Ss to translate the dialogue into Vietnamese . - Make the preparation on the part SPEAK. “There was an emergency at Lan’s school. A student (1) off her bike and hit her head on the road. She was (2) but she cut her head and the (3) was (4) badly. Objectives : After finishing the lesson students( Ss) will be able to make and respond to requests offers and promises. V. Language contents: - Structures: Requests ,offers and promise with will Will you please . . . .? Can you . . . . . ? Would you like . . . . .? I promise I will + V Will / Won’t you + V? - Vocabulary : on the first-aids. VI. Techniques: Matching ,network VII. Teaching aids: pictures of activities in class-text book. II. Procedures: Teachers’ activities Students’ activities 1. Warm up: (7ms) - Call Ss to finish network. - Draw a network with an example on the board and use it as a game. - Deliver posters to Ss and ask them to write as many words as possible on their posters. - Ask Ss to stick their posters on The BB after they finish. - Tell them the group to have most right words is the winner. - Work in pairs and four students go to the BB and write . Each group takes turn to go to the board and writes as many words as they can. - Compare and remark. Possible answer: have a nose bleed have a burn have a cut have a bee sting Correct . Đinh Xn Lưu. Pre-Speaking (15 ms) - Ask Ss questions to elicit the models. - Have Ss repeat 2 or 3 times before writing them on the BB. - Underline the key words. Questions : 1) I want you to get me a bandage. How can I say? 2) I would like you to come to my party How can I say? 3) I tell my mother that I’ll surely finish my work before bedtime. How can I say? Give the answer: 1. Will you ( please ) give me a bandage ? 2. Would you like to come to my party? 3. I promise I’ll finish my homework before bedtime. - Get Ss to work and find the rules for themselves by asking questions. - Guide them to read the box on page 81. • To make request : Will Would Could Can • Respond : Sure/ OK /All right. I’m sorry I can’t./ I am afraid not. • To make an offer : Will / Won’t you Shall I Can I Would you like to +V . . . ? What can I do for you ? Can I get you . . . . ? • Responds : Yes, please / That would be nice. No, thank you. - Read the situations written. - Look at the models and repeat - Listen to the questions and answer. - Observe the sentences to offer aor request or promise. - Copy the models - And respond. Homework (2ms) - Ask Ss to make a list to use first-aids for - Look at the picture and work in pairs to match the picture and words given. - Read the words given and give the meaning. - Copy the words. - Read the request and listen how to do. - Look at the pictures on page 82 and match the situations in groups. - Read aloud the situations. - Copy the key. - Identify the situations I the picture. - Read aloud. - Repeat in chorus and then individually. - Make request or offer or promise in pairs . - Present in front of the class. - Give the ideas - Copy the task and remember to do. Warm up: (5ms) - Guess from the context: What action ? - Ask Ss to look at the picture on page 82 and write out all the verbs describing the actions of the people in it . - Tell Ss to write as many verbs as possible .Which group write the most verbs is the winner. - Answer key: to drive , wheel / move /push / weigh / wait/ lie / stand / lean. 2. Pre-listening - Give the picture and present the new words.
