Phân biệt cặp từ dễ nhầm tiếng anh The other – the others – another – others a The other: ( lại ) xác định nên ln có mạo từ the Ex: there are two chairs, one is red, the other is blue ( = the other chair) b The others: ( lại số lượng đinh ) ( ln có the ) Ex: there are 20 students, one is fat, the others are thin NOTE: muốn lặp lại danh từ “ student “ không dùng “ the others students” mà phải dùng “ the other students”  There are 20 students, one is fat, the other students are thin c Another: khác không nằm số lượng Ex: I have eaten my cake give me another ( = another cake ) d Others: khác ( không nằm số lượng cả) ( khơng có mạo từ the ) Ex: some students like sport, others don’t NOTE: muốn lặp lại danh từ “ students” không dùng “ others students” mà phải dùng “ other student”  Some students like sport, other students don’t Like / as: giống như, - Khi “ like” dùng giới từ, khơng có động từ sau Nếu có động từ phải dùng “ as if” Liên từ “ as” nên dùng để giới thiệu mệnh đề Ex:1 incorrect: it sounds like he is speaking English Correct: it sounds as if he is speaking English 2.Incorrect: John looks as his father Correct: John looks like his father Lay/ lie - “Lay” có nhiều nghĩa nghĩa phổ biến tương đương với cụm từ “ put smt down” ( đặt, để xuống ) Ex: lay your book on the table Wash the dishes Come on! - Nghĩa khác “ lay” “ produce eggs”: đẻ trứng Ex: thousands of turtles drang themselves onto the beach and lay their eggs in the sand - “Lie”: nằm Ex: lie in bed Lay down on the couch Lie on a beach - “lie” có nghĩa nói dối Let/ lets/ let’s - “ let” “lets” động từ dùng với thứ thứ ba có nghĩa cho phép = allow allows S + let/lets + smb + smt Ex: My boss lets me leave the office early my parents let me go out with my friend - “ let “còn dùng với nghĩa “ để cho/ để cho” Form: let + someone + + smt Ex: don’t let him go Let me help you - “ let’s” thể viết tắt từ “ let us” mang ý nghĩa kêu gọi nhóm người “ hãy” làm điều Form: let’s + + smt Ex: Let’s go let’s work together say – tell – speak – talk a Say - sau “ say” khơng có tân ngữ người theo sau Chúng ta sử dụng “say something or say something to somebody” Say thường để đưa lời nói xác ( trọng nội dung nói ) + nói say about, khơng thể nói say something about Ex: 1.I want to say something a few words/ a little about my family please say it again in English b Tell - có nghĩa cho biết, trọng, trình bày - thường gặp form: + tell smb smt: nói với điều + tell smb to smt: bảo làm + tell smb about smt: cho biết điều - Tell thường có tân ngữ người theo sau thường có tân ngữ Ex: have you told him the news yet? - Tell thường sử dụng với mệnh đề that Ex: Ann told me ( that) she was tired - Tell dùng để đưa kiện thông tin, thường dùng với what, where Ex: can you tell me when movie starts? - Tell dùng đưa cho hướng dẫn Ex: the doctor told me to stay in bed c Speak - Nói lời, phát biểu, trọng mở miệng,nói lời - thường dùng làm V khơng có tân ngữ có tân ngữ số Ex: he is going to speak at the meeting - Khi muốn nói với dùng “speak to smb or speak with smb” Ex: she is speaking to our teacher d Talk - Nghĩa trao đổi, chuyện trò, có nghĩa gần speak, trọng động tác nói - Thường gặp trog form: +talk to smb : nói chuyện với + talk about smt : nói điều + + talk with smb: chuyện trò với Ex: what are they talking about?
