Unit 3: Narrative Essay Narrative organization What is a narrative essay? A narrative essay tells a story A story is made up with: • Setting: the location • Theme: the basic idea • Mood: the feeling or atmosphere • Characters: the people • Plot: the sequence of events (climax / turning points) What is the organization of a narration? • Introduction • Body • Conclusion Introduction Hook makes the readers guess/ interested in the story Background information gives the readers the information from the story - Where did the story happen? - When did the story happen? - Who are the characters? - What is the story about? Thesis statement prepares the readers to join in the story • Body - Describe the sequence of events in the story The actions are arranged in the order of time - Describe the context (sights, smells, sounds, tastes, feeling) - Describe the emotions of the characters • Conclusion - Describe the outcome of the story - Describe the lesson the character received after the experience - Present the prediction or revelation about future actions that will happen as a result of the events in the story Example: Introduction • Hook: makes the readers guess/ interested in the story • Background information Where? When? Who?
