Lesson Plan – Tieng Anh 10 Tuesday, March 18, 2008 UNIT 13: FILMS AND CINEMA Period 80: Listening 1. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students (Ss) will be able to: - Develop some listening micro-skills like listening for main idea, listening for specific information, taking notes while listening, and summarizing main ideas. 2. Materials: - CD player, CD of Tieng Anh 10 - Textbooks, board and chalk 3. Methods: - Individual work, pair work, and presentation. 4. Anticipated problems : 5. Procedure: Teacher’s activities & contents Students’ activities Warm – up (5’) - Ask Ss to close their notebooks - Call 2 Ss to stand up and answer the question: “What do you do in your free time?” - Go to the board and ask the whole class the same questions, write on the board the activities - Give comment on those activities and lead into the new lesson: “Well, you have lots of things to do in your free time. Today, we will listen to a conversation between two friends talking about an activity in their free time” - Close their notebooks - 2 Ss take turn to answer - Work with T to list some activities they often do in their free time - Listen I. Before you listen (8 )’ • Let Ss open their notebooks and look at the table page 136. • Explain the task; make it clearer by asking a student: “How often do you watch TV?” • Give Ss 1’ to tick in the table • After 1’ ask Ss to compare the answer with their partners. Listen and repeat • Introduce the new words that will appear in the listening • Open their notebooks page 136 • Listen • A volunteer stands ups and answers • Tick in the table • Compare with friends Lunemo – English teaching group – Doan Thuong high school 1 Lesson Plan – Tieng Anh 10 tape in the lesson • Work with Ss to make sure that they understand the meaning of all the words introduced • Read all the words as model • Ask the whole class to repeat after (2 times) • Introduce the listening tape: “You are going to listen to two friends, Lan and Huong, talking about their plans for the next week.” • Ask Ss to look at the picture and the words that they have just read to guess what their plan is. • Ask for some ideas • Look at the new words in their books • Ask T if there is any new word they don’t know the meaning • Listen to the model • Repeat after T • Listen • Guess • Some give their answers II. While you listen Task 1: Listening for main idea (4’) • Tell Ss that they will listen to the dialog once only to know what Lan and Huong are planning to do • Play the disc 1 time • Stop and ask if there is anyone having the answer • Check the answer by playing the first part of the dialog and stop at the key sentence • Give final answer and feedbacks • Answer: They are planning to go to see the Titanic Task 2: Filling in the table (15’) • Introduce: “Lan and Huong are planning to go to see the Titanic together. However, each of them has other different plans for the whole next week. Now, you will have chance to listen again to complete the table in your books. Listen carefully to find out what Lan or Huong will do each day in the next week.” • Note that Ss just have to take notes like things T’s done in the warm-up part. • Remind Ss that they will listen to the dialog 2 times more. • Play the disc the first time • Stop and ask some Ss that how many days they have completed • Play the disc the second time • Stop and ask for other answers for the other days • Write on the board the similar table as the one in the textbook, fill in the table as the Ss answer • Check the answers by playing the disc the third time. Stop at the sentences or phrases that contain the answers, correct the answer on the board right at that time. • Assure the answers and give feedbacks Task 1 • Listen to T’s instruction • Listen to the dialog • Anyone having the answer raises hand and answers • Listen • Listen and write correct answer in their notebooks. Task 2 • Listen to T’s instruction • Listen to the dialog • Some answer T’s question • Listen • Some stand up and answer • Look at the board • Listen and check with the T Lunemo – English teaching group – Doan Thuong high school 2 Lesson Plan – Tieng Anh 10 Task 3 (3’) • Explain the requirement of the task. • Ask Ss to look at the table and answer the question • Check with the whole class and give final answer: Tuesday (because they are both free on that day) • Comment • Listen and take notes Task 3 • Listen • A volunteer stands up and answers • Check with T • Listen to T’s comment III. After you listen (8’) • Explain the requirement: “You’re going to talk about what Lan and Huong will do the following week by summarizing the conversation between them.” • Guide Ss some ways to summarize the conversation: +) summarize what Lan will do first, then summarize the things Huong will do or vice versa, leave Tuesday to the end to make a conclusion +) talk about each day in the next week, leave Tuesday to the end of the summary to make a conclusion *) note that Ss should use some conjunctions like but or however (e.g.: Huong will be free on Monday but Lan’s going to see a play that day), and therefore to make a conclusion. • Let Ss work in groups in 4’ • Go around to observe and offer help if necessary • Stop summarizing and call 1-2 Ss to stand up and read their summaries. • Feedback and read out T’s summary if necessary • Listen to T’s explanation • Listen to T’s instructions and take notes • Work in groups • 2 Ss take turn to read their summaries • Listen Consolidation and home work (2’) • Summarize the main points of the lesson: - Listening for main idea - Filling in the table while listening • Give homework: Write 6-8 sentences saying what you are planning to do next week • Listen • Write down the requirement of the homework Lunemo – English teaching group – Doan Thuong high school 3 . 18, 2008 UNIT 13: FILMS AND CINEMA Period 80: Listening 1.
