LESSON PLAN Unit 12: MUSIC Lesson: Writing Class: 10B9 Supervisor: Huynh Thi Le Hang Teacher in charge: Nguyen Thi Phuong * Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Know how to write a profile - Know more about lexical items related to music category * Skill: writing * Teaching aids: Blackboard, chalk, posters and handouts. PROCEDURE I. Warm-up: (5’) “Shark attack” game - T tells Ss that they will play “Shark attack” game - T gives instructions: + Look at the girl. She may be attacked by the shark. I have a word containing 7 letters. + First, you guess the letters one by one and then try to find out the word. + If the letter is right, the girl will stand in this step. + If the letter is wrong, the girl will step down one step. Who find the word first will be the winner.” - T checks instructions - Starts the game - Key: PROFILE - Congratulates the winner * Lead-in : + What is a profile?  Profile is a short biography of somebody. + What is a profile included?  profile included: date & place of birth, family, major achievements, date of death ( if the person died) II. Pre-writing ( 8’) 1. Vocabulary: + composer ( n ) : nhà soạn nhạc ( technique : “ What do we call a person who writes songs?”) + rag ( n ) : bản nhạc ( technique : picture) + tune ( n): giai điệu ( technique : “ What is another word of melody?”) + mixture(n) sự hoà trộn (technique: “How do we say “ su hoa tron” in English?”) 2. Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember III. While – writing ( 20’) 1. Activity 1 : Sentence completion - T asks Ss to look at task 1, page 129 in textbook - T asks Ss to work in pairs in 5 minutes - T checks instructions - T requires Ss to notice the tense of V in writing profile and Adding verbs, articles, prepositions and connectors when writing if necessary - T goes around and helps Ss if necessary. - T calls 6 Ss go to the board and write down their answers - T asks the whole class to correct. - T gives feedback and corrections. - T asks Ss copy down in their notebook Suggested answers: 1. He learnt to play music when he was very young. 2. Scott learnt to play the works of composers like Bach, Beethoven and Mozart as well as to compose music. 3. He quickly became famous. 4. His tunes were wonderful mixture of classical European and African beats which were known as Ragtime. 5. All in all, he wrote 50 piano rags and was called the King of Ragtime. 6. Activity 2 : Profile writing - T asks Ss to look at task 2, page 129 in textbook - T asks Ss to write a profile of Van Cao based on the prompts in the textbook in 7 minutes. - T goes around and help Ss IV. Post – writing ( 10’) - T asks Ss to exchange their paper with the partner and correct mistakes for each other. - T calls 2 Ss to go to write their answers on the blackboard - T checks the answers with the whole class - T gives feedback - T collects some common mistakes and corrects - T asks Ss copy down in their notebooks. Suggestion answer: Van Cao was born on the fifteenth of November, 1923 in Nam Dinh, into a poor worker family (His parents were poor workers). However, he started composing music when he was young. His first song (Suoi mo) was written in 1939 and it quickly became famous. The song “Tien quan ca”, which is the national anthem of Vietnam, was written in 1944. His artistic works were songs, poems and paintings (He was also good at other artistic works like song writing, poem writing and paintings). He died on the tenth of July, 1995. He was (is) known as a very talented musician and highly appreciated by the Vietnamese people. V.
