Defining relative clause : Mệnh đề quan hệ xác đònh Mệnh đề quan hệ xác đònh được đặt sau những danh từ chưa được xác đònh, vì thế mệnh đề này cần fải có để xác định nghĩa cho danh từ đứng trước nó. * Relative pronoun: (Đại từ quan hệ ) : Đại từ quan hệ là từ đứng liền sau một danh từ để thay thế cho danh từ( đại từ) làm chủ ngữ, tân ngữ hoặc sở hữu cách cho mệnh đề sau. Dùng chỉ người Chủ từ ( Subject) Who That Tân ngữ ( Object) Whom / Who That Sở hữu (possessive) Whose Dùng chỉ vật Which That Which That Whose Of which - WHO: Dùng thay thế cho cụm danh từ (đại từ)ø chỉ người,làm chức năng chủ ngữ. Ex: My friend, Tuan, is very handsome. Tuan can sing folk songs very well. => My friend, Tuan,who is very handsome, can sing folk songs very well. => My friend, Tuan, who can sing folk songs very well,is very handsome. - WHOM: Dùng thay thế cho cụm danh từ (đại từ)chỉ người,làm chức năng tân ngữ ( Complement) Ex: The old lady to whom I spoke was Tom's aunt. - WHOSE: Là đại từ quan hệ chỉ sự sở hữu . Ex: The film is about a poor-girl. Her boy friend leaves her to marry a rich woman. - The film is about a poor- girl whose boy friend leaves her to marry a rich woman. - WHICH: Dùng thay thế cho cụm danh từ( đại từ) chỉ đồ vật ,ở vò trí chủ ngữ và tân ngữ. Ex: Auld Lang Syne is a song . Auld Lang Syne is sung on New Year’s Eve. => Auld Lang Syne is the song which is sung on New Year’s Eve. - THAT : Dùng thay thế cho WHO(whom)/WHICH * Relative adverb ( Trạng từ quan hệ ) - WHEN: Có thể dùng để thay thế “on which” hoặc “in which” (dùng để chỉ thời gian) Ex: I never forget the day when I met him - WHERE: Có thể thay thế cho “at which” hoặc “in which” (dùng để chỉ nơi chốn) Ex: The resort where I enjoy is Ha Long Bay. 2. Non-defining relative clauses : Mệnh đề quan hệ không xác đònh : Mệnh đề quan hệ không xác đònh được đặt sau những danh từ được xác đònh, vì thế những mệnh đề này chỉ bổ ngữ thêm nnghĩa cho danh từ đứng trước., chúng không nhất thiết phải có trong câu , ta có thể bỏ đi mà câu không trở nên mập mờ, chúng được tách biệt với danh từ mà chúng thêm nghóa bởi dấu phẩy (,) - Khơng dùng "That" ở mệnh đề quan hệ khơng xác định. Ex: Mrs. Thom, who is my former teacher, likes bananas very much. 2. Making suggestion( Câu đề nghò ) : Câu đề nghò gồm nhiều hình thức - Dùng“ Let’s// Shall I/ Shall we + Vinf” diễn đạt đề nghò với ngôi thứ nhất Ex:Let’s go to the zoo. - Dùng “Why don’t we/ Why don’t you + Vinf” diễn đạt đề nghò với ngôi thứ nhất và ngôi thứ hai -Ta có thể dùng “ What about / How about + V-ing (Bạn nghó sao………?) - Dùng động từ “suggest”(đề nghò) hoặc “propose” (đề nghò,gợi ý ) Suggest+ +V-ing Ex: I suggest (your) forgetting him. Suggest that + S+ should +V Ex: I suggest that we should go to a seaside resort. 3. Adverb clauses of result ( Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ kết quả) S + V + so + adjective / Adverb + that + S + V Ex: The soup tastes so good that everyone will ask for more. 5. Adverb clauses of reason ( Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ lý do ) - Mệnh đề này thường được giới thiệu bằng “because”, “as” , “since” chúng đều có nghóa là “vì” Ex: The flight to New York was cancelled because the fog got thicker. 6. Adverb clauses of cocession ( Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ sự nhượng bộ) Although Though + clause, Main - clause Even though Ex: Although he had a bad cold , he went to class. * Notes: Despite and in spite of ( mặc dù) + Noun/ Noun phrase. - Ex: Despite the bad weather, they went shopping. = Although the weather was bad, they went shopping 7. Preposition of time ( Giới từ chỉ thời gian ) : at, in ,on, from . . . to, for, by - AT : + một điểm thời gian cụ thể Ex : We have class at one o’clock. + night Ex : I sleep at night. - IN : + tháng/năm/ cụ thể Ex : I was born in1994 + the morning/afternoon / evening Ex : We have class in the morning. - ON: + ngày trong tuần Ex : We have class on Monday. + ngày tháng năm Ex: I was born on April 6, 2006 - FROM + một điểm thời gian + TO + một điểm thời gian Ex: We have class from 7.00 to 10.15 - FOR: + một khoảng thời gian : để nói rằng một cái gì đó diễn ra bao lâu rồi Ex : We walked for 2 hours to reach the waterfall. - BY: + một điểm thời gian Ex: Can you finish the work by five o’clock. 8.
