Level: Pre-intermediate level. 3. Time: 45m (5 th period ) 4. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: • Listen to specific information. • Take notes 5. Teaching aids: pictures, cassette 6. Anticipated problems: there are games, which can make the class out of control. -> Solution: prepare carefully PROCEDURE Time Stages & Content T’s activities Ss’ activities 5mins I. WARM-UP: Game: Bingo - Ask Ss to write down nine words of sports on a square. - Write down nine words of sports on a square. 1 game - Say out words of sports randomly. Ask ss listen and tick the word they have on their list. When they make a straight line with all the words ticked, they shout Bingo to win the game. Instruction: I’d like you to write down 9 names of sports that you know in a square like that (draw a square on the board). Then, after 3 minutes, I will say out some names of sports randomly. If the sport that you hear exists in your square, put a tick beside it. When anyone makes a straight line like this (make an example on the board), shout Bingo to win the game. Check their understanding of the instruction - Listen to the teacher and tick the words that they hear. - Shout Bingo when they make a straight line. 10 mins II. BEFORE YOU LISTEN: - Ask Ss to look at the pictures in the textbook – page 141 – and answer the questions - Elicit the new words by asking questions 1. What is the name of the sport in picture no.1? Expected answer: high jump 2. What do we call the person who take part in the high jump? - Look at the pictures in the textbook – page 141 – and answer the questions: 2 Expected answer: high jumper 3. (Teacher pointing to the bar) What is this? Expected answer: this is a bar. 4. What happen when he cant jump over the bar? Expected answer: the bar falls or he crash into the bar 5. What is the name of the sport in picture no.2? Expected answer: swimming 6. what can we call a sporta competition in which people taking part can use any style that they want? Expected answer: freestyle 7. When a competitor achieves a better result than there has ever been before, how can we call this? Expected answer: he has set a new record. 8. do you know the name of this sport? (pointing to the picture no.3) Expected answer: gymnastics 9. How can we call the person who take part in this sport? Expected answer: gymnast 10. Where can she practice? Expected answer: in a gym/ gymnasium 11. What is the name of the sport in picture no.4? 3 Expected answer: long jump 12. Do you know the word to describe the action when the long jumper come to the ground after jumping? Expected answer: to land - Ask Ss to repeat some difficult names: Lee Bong – Ju Vichai. 20 mins III. WHILE YOU LISTEN: Activity 1: Multiple choice - Tell them to listen and note down any personal name or name of a sport appearing in the recording - Play the recording the 1 st time Activity 1: - Play the recording the second time and ask ss to do task 1 Answer key 1C 2A 3B 4B 5D - Call 1 student to come to the board to write his/her answer - Ask the whole class if they agree or not. Write the answer that most of students agree. Activity 2: - Listen and note down any personal name or name of any sport they hear in the recording. Activity 1: listen the recording and do task 1 1 student comes to the board to write his/her answer 4 Activity 2: Question and Answer - Guide Ss to guess the answers - Play the recording again and ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer questions in task 2. - Suggested answer: 1. He looked very disappointed. - Call some pairs to present their answers - Play the recording the 3 rd time and check keys for 2 tasks Activity 2: work in pairs to ask and answer questions in task 2ơ 10 mins IV. AFTER YOU LISTEN: Role-play Ss play the role of an interview and an athlete who has just taken part in the Asian Games. He or She has just set a new record or has just failed in the competition. Interview him/her to ask about his/her preparations for the Asian Games, his or her experience… the feelings after the moment … Feedback: Call on some pairs to act out their conversations in front of the class.
