on the Rhimler-Shotts agar Bacteria A hydrophila was grows well on conventional cultures, colonies of A hydrophila were round, slightly convex, color was smooth and milky (Figure 4.9) and were exactly the same as described previously By the authors Shotts Jr & Rimler (1973), on the Rhimler-Shotts agar, colonies were round, convex, smooth, pale yellow The colonies with size 1-1.5 mm Checked the basic indicators also showed that the bacteria were short rod-shaped, round with two ends, Gram-negative, motile, 1-2 µm in size Figure 4.11 Gram stain A hydrophila from infected fish The fish suspected of being infected with A hydrophila, the main clinical symptoms and gross lesions observed include: fish anorexia, lethargic swimming, haemorrhage of skin, gill cover, base of fin, bleeding in the liver and intestines, the abdomen contains a lot of yellow fluid, the anus is red and swollen Some 42 signs of the disease such as an enlarged spleen and kidneys The results in this study showed that all dead fish showed typical symptoms of A hydrophila infection, such as haemorrhage at the fins and gills, haemorrhage of skin which were similar to the description by Bui (2002) The results from isolation after infection also confirmed the cause of mortality No other bacteria were found from these fish samples 43 V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS 5.1 CONCLUSIONS After 70 days of experiment, grass carp fed on moringa leaves grew best, higher than dried form and all the other feed in the experiment Although fish fed on dried moringa leave showed lower weight gain as compared to that from fresh moringa leave, it was still better than fed on fresh duckweed and industrial feed Thus, fresh moringa leaf is a good feed for grass carp, and dried moringa leaves were recommended for storage The extracts from moringa in this study showed potential on inhibit to infectious bacteria which cause high mortality in aquaculture The extract from fresh moringa leaf showed results of antibacterial activity on all tested bacteria including F columnare, A hydrophila Whereas, extract from moringa kernel showed strong antibacterial activity to F columnare only The results from the challenge test showed the fish fed fresh moringa leaves showed the lowest mortality rate after 14 days post infection In another word, grass carp in fresh moringa leaf group resisted to A hydrophilla better than all the other groups Therefore, fresh moringa leaves are recommended to use for grass carp in order to enhance not only growth performance, but also for disease resistance 5.2 SUGGESTIONS 1) Future research should continue to exam products from moringa with other pathogenic bacteria in grass carp, especially to F columnare 2) It is recommended to carry out future experiment in a large environment such as hapa-net or in a earthen pond in order to access closer to practice conditions and avoid other problems with changes of water quality in small close tanks 3) Further study could be
