Q Placement Test User Guide Instructions The Q Placement Tests are designed to place students into the appropriate strand and level of Q: Skills for Success The Reading and Writing Placement Test measures reading comprehension, other reading skills, vocabulary knowledge, vocabulary skills, grammar, and knowledge of writing skills The Reading and Writing Placement Test consists of 50 items The Listening and Speaking Placement Test measures listening comprehension, other listening skills, vocabulary knowledge, vocabulary skills, grammar, pronunciation, and knowledge of speaking skills The Listening and Speaking Placement Test consists of 50 items There are a variety of item types: multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, sentence completion, paragraph completion, error identification and correction, sentence rewrite, sentence construction, matching, true/false, and sequencing When you meet with a learner for the first time, try to create a comfortable, non-threatening environment Talk to the learner for a few minutes to put him or her at ease Find out the learner’s name, native language(s), country of origin, occupation, and contact information When the learner feels more relaxed, ask him or her to complete any required forms and then administer the appropriate Placement Test Tell the learner that the Placement Test(s) will help you determine the best level for him or her If necessary, demonstrate where to write the letter of the correct answer Once testing is complete, score the Placement Test(s) using the answer key provided We recommend placement as shown in these charts: Reading and Writing Result 0-5 items correct 6-15 items correct 16-25 items correct 26-35 items correct 36-45 items correct 46-50 items correct Level Reading and Writing Skills for Success Q Intro Reading and Writing Skills for Success Q Level Reading and Writing Skills for Success Q Level Reading and Writing Skills for Success Q Level Reading and Writing Skills for Success Q Level Reading and Writing Skills for Success Q Level Listening and Speaking Result 0-5 items correct 6-15 items correct 16-25 items correct 26-35 items correct 36-45 items correct 46-50 items correct Level Listening and Speaking Skills for Success Q Intro Listening and Speaking Skills for Success Q Level Listening and Speaking Skills for Success Q Level Listening and Speaking Skills for Success Q Level Listening and Speaking Skills for Success Q Level Listening and Speaking Skills for Success Q Level © Oxford University Press Permission granted to reproduce for classroom use
