Education and training are essential for each country's survival and progress, as well as for humanity's overall development Given the existing circumstances Science and technological advancements, as well as the broader process of globalization and international integration, are unavoidable economic trends nowadays The knowledge economy has influenced every part of society, including education The article below is really fascinating It tells the narrative of a girl's desire to study abroad I believe that this article will inspire young generation II, English – Vietnamese The CDC updated its mask guidelines What to know about ‘the highest level of protection’ By Kristen Rogers, Parija Kavilanz and Amanda Sealy January 1, 2022 The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has changed its mask guidelines to recommend that people "wear the most protective mask you can that fits well and that you will wear consistently." The agency describes well-fitting respirators approved by the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) such as N95 masks as offering "the highest level of protection." The updated guidelines come after many public health experts have been recommending for months that people wear more effective masks particularly N95s and that the CDC change its guidelines on mask-wearing Trung tâm kiểm soát ngăn chặn dịch bệnh( CDC) cập nhật hướng dẫn đeo mặt nạ Những điều cần biết ‘mức độ bảo vệ cao nhất’ Kristen Rogers, Parija Kavilanz and Amanda Sealy Ngày tháng năm 2022 Trung tâm Kiểm sốt Phịng ngừa Dịch bệnh Hoa Kỳ thay đổi hướng dẫn đeo trang để khuyến cáo người "hãy đeo trang bảo vệ bạn tốt mà vừa vặn bạn đeo lâu dài." In crowded places, "you should be wearing a KN95 or N95 mask," which can cost a few dollars each, Wen added Due to certain materials such as polypropylene fibers -acting as both mechanical and electrostatic barriers, these masks better prevent tiny particles from getting into your nose or mouth and must be fitted to your face to function properly Here's what you need to know about masks like N95s, where to get them and how to use them safely Why are experts recommending N95s now? N95s are more widely available now than they were earlier in the pandemic, and public health experts in the US also have a better understanding that the primary driver of coronavirus infection is shared air, Erin Bromage, an associate professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth , told CNN last month Cloth masks encouraged earlier in the pandemic can filter large droplets, while more effective masks, such as N95s, can filter both large droplets and the smaller aerosols or particles potentially laden with airborne virus if infected people are present, Bromage said A cloth face covering has 75% inward and outward leakage, which the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists defines as the "percentage of particles entering the facepiece" and the "percentage of particles exhaled by a source exiting the facepiece," respectively Properly fitted N95 respirators approved by NIOSH can filter up to 95% of particles in the air Why the Omicron variant of coronavirus has been infecting many people so quickly is currently unknown, but it emphasizes the importance of wearing high-quality masks, tháng người nên đeo trang hiệu - đặc biệt N95 CDC thay đổi hướng dẫn việc đeo trang Nhà phân tích y tế CNN, Tiến sĩ Leana Wen, bác sĩ cấp cứu giáo sư thỉnh giảng sách quản lý y tế trường y tế công cộng Milken Đại học George Washington gần nói "CNN Newsroom.": “ Khẩu trang vải đơn giản đồ trang trí mặt Chúng khơng có tác dụng với biến chủng covid Omicron” Ở nơi đông người, "bạn nên đeo mặt nạ KN95 N95 tốn vài la chiếc, Wen nói thêm Do số vật liệu định chẳng hạn sợi polypropylene - hoạt động rào cản học tĩnh điện, mặt nạ ngăn chặn tốt hạt nhỏ lọt vào mũi miệng bạn phải vừa khít với khn mặt bạn để hoạt động bình thường Dưới điều bạn cần biết mặt nạ N95, nơi mua chúng cách sử dụng chúng an toàn Tại chuyên gia khuyên dùng N95 bây giờ? Erin Bromage, phó giáo sư sinh học Đại học Massachusetts Dartmouth, nói với CNN vào tháng trước: Hiện nay, N95 phổ biến rộng rãi so với trước đại dịch chuyên gia y tế công cộng Mỹ hiểu rõ nguyên nhân gây nhiễm coronavirus khơng khí chung Ơng nói thêm : Mặt nạ vải - The mission is to translate a 1500-word English article into Vietnamese and a 1500-word Vietnamese article into English - Objectives: Developing skills and practicing translation The report would include the lessons I learned from my internship as well as my curriculum recommendations to the Faculty of English based on my internship experiences Secondly, about Hanoi Open University On November 3, 1993, the Prime Minister issued Decision No 535/TTg to establish Hanoi Open University (HOU) with the mission of "opening learning opportunities for all people of good quality, meeting diverse learning needs of many types, attaching importance to distance education, multidisciplinary and multi-level, serving the cause of national construction and international integration." - To be a university training institution and to study open training, distance training, and on-the-job training in order to meet the diverse demands of 20 - society, thereby contributing to the increase of scientific and technical capacity of scientific and technical personnel for the country Being a unit that operates within the system of universities directly managed by the Ministry of Education and Training and is entitled to all of the statutes of a public university II, PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES What I have done Weekly schedule DATE MISSION 27/12/2021 – 2/1/2022 - Contact Internship Supervisor and get internship plan - Research the topcics for translation - Consult the Supervisor - Prepare supporting documents for the Translation process 3/1/2022 – 9/1/2022 Choose an English online article and find the documents related to the translation 10/1/2021 – 16/1/2021 - 27/2/2022 28/2/2022 – 6/3/2022 Analyze and translate the Vietnamese - English article Improve grammatical translating skills Finish translating the Vietnamese - English article and send to supervisor for checking - Write the internship report and complete the internship diary - Check over Translation Product, Internship Report and Intership Diary for mistakes and ready to submit to the faculty New skills acquired and skills improved It is true that practice make perfer After finishing this intership, my translation skills have been improved significantly; therefore, my translations are getting more and more refined - Writing skill: To complete the internship I practiced writing a lot with different topics First, I correct spelling mistakes, then I write better, more elaborate sentences - Analysis skill: I was hit by a lot of new information when I first viewed the source texts, so I had to study the article carefully before translating to understand the primary idea and content Choosing word for translation: When it comes to translation, I had to resort to google translation as there were a lot of words I did not know how to translate However, during my translation in months, I have learned that before translating, I need to read more articles in the same topic to have the large number of words from the opposite text I translated from In this way, I would have enough vocabularies and knew exactly which words were for one particular context Computer skill: I have gained ability to use the instruments available in order to carry out the task In practice, fast typing and editing skill may give a huge adventage when transferring the idea into words in a limited time In addition, I am able to use search engine efficiently Teamwork skill: My friends and I joined a Facebook Messenger and Zalo group to exchange knowledge, experiences, evaluate and support each other when we had troubles in translating process It really helped me focus on and be more responsible for my work and achieved great efficiency - - - 22 - Time management : Because my internship lasted two months and I had a lot of stuff to plan for translation, I learnt how to allocate time wisely in order to finish my task and complete it on time Throughout the procedure, I had to force myself to remain disciplined in order to the assignment correctly All of the skills I listed above are fundamental and important for translators Classroom skills employed - - Writing skill : It is not natural that people say that if you want to become a good translator, you must first become a good writer My teachers told me that the goal of technical writing is to enlighten, not to impress, and that the more clearly and concisely you write, the more effective and digestible information you will provide To accomplish so, I drew on the reader’s vocabularies and encountered words they were already familiar with I attempted to utilize short, direct, and plain language to enable the readers obtain information faster and easily If a sentence was too long or had a complicated construction, I would mentally split it down into three or four shorter sentences, which I would then translate into target languages Flexibility in the application of all translation methods: I learned that a translator is never compelled to provide a word-for-word translation We won't be able to accurately portray the writer's meaning and aim if we so As a result, rather than translating words, I translated a statement as a whole The lecturer advised me to be flexible in my translations while avoiding being overly literal or free An overly loose translation might occasionally be devoid of the crucial notion, rendering the entire translation nonsensical While studying at university, I also studied the cultures of some English spoken countries such as Britan, Australia and the United State It helped me to understand more about their way of using language and made my translation more accurate The teachers also gave us a lot of translation exercises so that we could both practice at class and at home Cognitive abilities (memory, perception, attention, emotion), attitudinal components (intellectual curiosity, perseverance, rigor, critical thinking, knowledge, confidence, motivation), and specific skills (creativity, logic, analysis, ability to synthesize) are also psychophysiological aspects that I learned to apply in my translation Problems encountered - During the internship, I had been facing with some troubles which are very common with a new translator Translating compound words and vocabulary that related to Covid disease : Omicron( a new Covid-19 variant called B.1.1.529) or specialized terms : polypropylene fibers, mechanical and electrostatic barriers, Translating phrases in quotation marks: These are phrases that are emphatic or figurative In order to translate correctly I had to more research and read other articles related to those words For example: In the English article there is the phrase: “ CNN Newsroom” it means an American news program that airs on CNN ( Broadcasting for 43 hours each week, Newsroom features live and taped news reports, in addition to analysis from experts on the issues being covered, and headlines throughout each hour.) 23 - - Translating idoms: While idioms are essential elements of the language, they are also difficult to explain asI am not aware of the cultural differences between the source and target languages, for example little more than mean simply or unimportant I also found that my biggest minus when it comes to translating was the lack of conciseness as I used too many unneeded word Grammatical mistakes: Compound and complex sentences are difficult to translate As a result, I double-check after I have already translated Lesson learned During my internship, I got numerous great experiences and lessons Without the internship, these experiences and learning would not have been possible: - First and foremost, I had the opportunity to strengthen my English receptive skill, which involves identifying and fixing errors I had to constantly update grammar and spelling because I was entering all of the information in English but creating output in Vietnamese and vice versa After 3.5 years in university, I had once again struggled to finish a report - Second, I have learnt to evaluate my own translation from the perspective of an outsider It seemed to me during the internship that evaluating my own translation was challenging, whereas evaluating someone else's was much easier Because, like everyone else, I normally put my ego first, it's easy to be deluded by the mistaken assumption that my work is the best job Recognizing the flaw is unquestionably the first step in overcoming it This, in my opinion, is the key to being a respectable translation - Thirdly, due to a lack of vocabulary, I frequently consult the internet when translating It resulted in time wastage and distraction Following this internship, I learned how to follow the translation process and discovered that preparation is a critical phase that must not be overlooked - Finally, I have figured out how to organize my time effectively It was easy to overlook and miss the deadline due to the slack schedule of both school and internship I had to learn to divide my time evenly rather than waiting until the last minute to finish everything Although I recognize that what I learned was not substantial, it would serve as an excellent basis for me to continue to research and develop my knowledge in order to be of use to my employers in the future III, CONCLUSION During the internship, I gained a lot of useful knowledge and experience for myself I not only had the opportunity to put theories learned at university into practice, but I also learned a lot about how to become a good translator The internship is a big test for me to figure out what my strengths and weaknesses are Because of it, I know what I need to to improve the necessary skills for my future career In terms of the benefits and drawbacks of university curriculum, I believe that all students might recognize them in their daily lessons, but I would to focus on the benefits first It is self-evident that the university curriculum provides students with both theory and practice It means that pupils will have time to practice and develop their skills when they learn something new Additionally, students majoring in English will learn a lot from their teachers in the subject of translation, particularly new vocabulary or terms in each discipline They are not limited to translating a 24 large number of documents on a single topic They can, on the other hand, choose from a variety of articles on the internet about various themes while also learning new terminology The university curriculum, on the other hand, continues to have some shortcomings The tasks in the translation exercise books are grouped into many areas, however they not focus on a single field When it comes to translating numerous writings on various topics, college students, in particular, will not have many specialist terminology They are just familiar with a few words in each field One disadvantage I would like to point out is that translation theories are divided into numerous small components, making it difficult for pupils to recall all of these translating procedures and ideas Furthermore, it is quite rare for students to devote time to analyzing translating processes or classifying translation materials when practicing translation College students will spend a significant amount of time learning all of these theories in their textbooks, which are often unneeded IV, RECOMMENDATIONS I understand that translating is a difficult job that takes a lot of practice, therefore having the direction of a teacher is critical However, because of the pandemic, I and other students have been unable to attend school and engage in face-to-face classes for the previous two years As a result, the exchange and contribution of ideas is substantially harmed I'm hoping for a rapid resolution to the epidemic so that learning can be more effective However, students should not be too worried, Hou teachers are alway willing to help you With the enthusiastic support from supervisors and friends, you will have many opportunities to apply the knowledge you have learned at class during the translation process 25 D, REFERENCES The English article From website edition.cnn.com https://edition.cnn.com/2022/01/15/health/mask-guide-faq-n95-kn95wellness/index.html The Vietnamese article From website vietnamnet.vn https://vietnamnet.vn/vn/giao-duc/no-luc-di-du-hoc-kieu-con-nha-ngheocua-co-gai-9x-811478.html 26 APPENDIX 27 28 29 30 31 32 CỘNG HÒA XÃ HỘI CHỦ NGHĨA VIỆT NAM Độc lập – Tự – Hạnh phúc PHIẾU ĐÁNH GIÁ NHẬN XÉT SINH VIÊN CỦA GIẢNG VIÊN HƯỚNG DẪN Họ tên sinh viên: Hoàng Thị Trang Lớp: K25A12 Khoá: 2018-2022 Khoa: Tiếng Anh Trong thời gian từ ngày 27 tháng 12 năm 2021 đến ngày tháng năm 2022 Tại: Khoa tiếng Anh – Trường Đại học Mở Hà Nội Địa chỉ: Phòng A2.10, Nhà B101 Bách Khoa, Quận Hai Bà Trưng, TP Hà Nội Sau trình thực tập sinh viên, giảng viên hướng dẫn nhận xét, đánh sau: Đánh giá trình thực tập đơn vị thực tập Thực báo cáo thực tập nhật ký thực tập 33 Kết đạt sau thực tập Điểm: Nhật ký thực tập (10%): Bằng số………… chữ………………… Báo cáo kinh nghiệm thực tập (20%): Bằng số………… chữ………………… Sản phẩm dịch (70%): Bằng số………… chữ………………… Ngày……tháng năm 2022 GIẢNG VIÊN HƯỚNG DẪN Th.S Nguyễn Thế Hóa 34 ...HANOI OPEN UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF ENGLISH INTERNSHIP REPORT ENGLISH MAJOR Sub -major: Interpretation and Translation HANOI -
