Pentium II (300 MHz) ! PCI 2.1 bus ! 4-gigabyte (GB) hard disk ! 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM ! 512-kilobyte (KB) L2 cache ! 12x CD-ROM or DVD drive ! Network adapter (must not use ISA bus) ! 4-MB video adapter ! Super VGA (SVGA) 17-inch monitor ! Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device ! Sound card with speakers ! Internet access ! Projection display device that supports SVGA 800x600, 256-colors (instructor computer only) Classroom Setup Guide Software Except where noted, all classroom computers require the following software configuration: ! Microsoft PowerPoint 97 Viewer, fonts, and slides (installed on the instructor computer only) Classroom Setup Guide Classroom Configuration The classroom is configured in a multiple domain model in which each classroom computer is promoted to domain controller Use computer names, domain names, and NETBIOS names from the table If a DHCP server is available, use it to assign IP addresses Otherwise, use the IP addresses provided Computer name IP address and preferred DNS server Domain name and NETBIOS name Instructor 131.107.2.200 Domain.com DOMAIN Student01 131.107.2.201 Domain01.com DOMAIN01 Student02 131.107.2.202 Domain02.com DOMAIN02 Student03 131.107.2.203 Domain03.com DOMAIN03 StudentXX 131.107.2.2XX DomainXX.com DOMAINXX All computers are assigned the Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 When setting up Windows 2000 Server, all computers are set to not participate in a network and assigned to WORKGROUP Classroom Setup Guide Computer Setup Instructions Use the following procedures to prepare each computer for class Before You Begin You will need to the following: ! Read all of the setup procedures ! Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials CD that is provided with the course materials Estimated time to set up the classroom: hours ! Set up the hardware Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer’s instructions (Refer to the hardware requirements.) Configure the hard disk as follows: • Format drive C with at least a 4-gigabyte (GB) partition ! Install and configure Windows 2000 Server Tip To increase the speed of installation, run SMARTDrive 5.0 or higher, (smartdrv.exe), a utility which ships with Microsoft MS-DOS version 6.22, prior to running the Windows 2000 Server setup program Insert the CD containing Microsoft Windows 2000 Server in the CD-ROM drive If the setup program starts, skip to step Open an MS-DOS command prompt window Change to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM, type winnt, and then press Enter Windows 2000 Server files will be copied to the hard disk Follow the prompts to install Windows 2000 Server Use the parameters provided in the following table Respond to all other installation prompts with defaults or with information appropriate for your computer or location When the following information is required Use Partition Install to C drive File system Use NTFS Allow Windows 2000 installer to convert the drive to NTFS from FAT Regional settings Use a setting appropriate to your locale Personalize your software Enter your name and the name of your organization Licensing modes Per Server; five concurrent connections Classroom Setup Guide When the following information is required Use Computer name Instructor should be the name of the instructor computer Studentxx should be the name of the student computers Administrator password Leave blank Windows 2000 components Add Message Queuing Services Add Domain Name Service (DNS) found in Networking Services If you are installing Windows 2000 on a computer that does not have a network interface card installed click Finish in the Completing the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard dialog box The computer will then restart You may resume the setup at the beginning of the “Add Microsoft Loopback Adaptor” procedure Date and time settings Use the correct date and time Networking settings Click Custom Settings and then click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Click Properties IP address See Classroom Configuration table Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Preferred DNS server Set this to the IP address for this computer Workgroup and computer domain Click OK The default selection is No, this computer is not on a network, or is in a network without a domain using WORKGROUP Completing Windows 2000 Setup Wizard Finish ! Configure display settings Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab Use the slider to configure the screen area to 800 by 600 pixels Click OK, and then click OK again in the Display Properties dialog box Classroom Setup Guide ! Add Microsoft Loopback Adaptor Important Run this procedure only if your computer does not have a network adapter card installed Open the Add/Remove Hardware control panel The Welcome dialog box appears Click Next The Choose a Hardware Task dialog box appears Click Add/Troubleshoot a Device and then click Next The Choose a Hardware Device dialog box appears In the Devices list, click Add a new device and then click Next The Find New Hardware dialog box appears Click No, I want to select the hardware from a list and then click Next The Hardware Type dialog box appears Select Network adapters from the Hardware types list and then click Next The Select Network Adapter dialog box appears a In the Manufacturers list, select Microsoft b In the Network Adapter list, select Microsoft Loopback Adapter c Click Next The Start Hardware dialog box appears Click Next The Completing the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard dialog box appears Click Finish Right-click My Network Places and then click Properties 10 In the Network and Dial-up Properties control panel, right-click Local Area Connection and then click Properties 11 Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click Properties 12 Click Use the following IP address and then enter the following information: a It is recommended that you use an IP address listed in the Classroom Configuration table b Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 c Set the Preferred DNS Server option to the IP address for this computer d Click OK and then close the Control Panel Classroom Setup Guide ! Configure DNS Log on as Administrator If the Configure Your Server dialog box is not displaying by default, then access it by opening Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Configure Your Server In the Configure Your Server dialog box, click Networking and then click DNS In the main pane, click Manage DNS In the DNS administration console, right-click your computer and choose Configure the server Use this table to complete the Configure DNS Server Wizard Dialog box name Default setting Welcome to the Configure DNS Server Wizard Action required Click Next Root Server (If your network settings used dynamic IP address allocation, then you will not see this dialog box.) Set properties for Lookup Zones In the DNS console, expand the computer Expand the Forward Lookup Zones folder Click the plus sign next to the domainX.com zone Right-click domainx.com and then click Properties In the domainX.com Properties dialog box, set the dynamic updates dropdown option to Yes and then click OK In the DNS console, expand the Reverse Lookup Zones folder again Click the plus sign next to 131.107.2.x Subnet folder Right-click 131.107.2.x Subnet and then click Properties In the domainX.com Subnet Properties dialog box, set the dynamic updates drop-down option to Yes and then click OK Close the DNS console ! Configure the Domain Controller Audit Policy Click the Run menu, then click Programs, Administrative Tools, and then click Domain Controller Security Policy Expand Security Settings and then expand Local Policies Click Audit Policy Open Audit object access Place a check in Success and then click OK The Define these policy settings check box is checked by default Close the Domain Controller Security Policy tool ! Install Visual Studio 6.0, Enterprise Edition Insert the Visual Studio 6.0 CD If Autorun does not execute, run Setup.exe from the root of the CD On the Installation Wizard, click Next On the End User License Agreement page, select I accept the agreement if you accept the terms of the agreement and then click Next On the Product Number and User ID page, enter the CD key for your copy of Microsoft Visual Studio, your name, and your company name Then click Next On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition page, select Custom and then click Next On the Choose Common Install Folder page, accept the default folder location and then click Next On the Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Setup window, click Continue In the Product ID dialog box, click OK 12 Classroom Setup Guide 10 From the list of components, select the following and then click Continue: • Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 • Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0 • ActiveX • Data Access • Enterprise Tools • Tools 11 Setup will install Visual Studio 12 On the Restart Windows window, click Restart Windows, leaving the CDROM in the drive 13 When Windows restarts, log in as Administrator 14 On the Install MSDN page, select Install MSDN and then click Next 15 Insert Disk of the MSDN Library Click OK on the Locate Microsoft Developer Network Disk dialog box 16 In the MSDN Library window, click Continue 17 Click OK to confirm the Product ID 18 Click I Agree on the License Agreement page 19 Click Custom on the MSDN Installation page to install the following components: • Full Text Search Index • VB Documentation • VID Documentation • VS Shared Documentation 20 Click Yes, when asked to create a shortcut 21 Insert the remaining MSDN disks when prompted 22 When the MSDN Library setup completion message is displayed, click OK 23 On the Other Client Tools page, not select any of the tools Click Next 24 On the Server Setups page, not select any of the server tools Click Next 25 Register your copy of MSDN and Visual Studio in a manner appropriate to your situation 26 In the Configure your Server window, unselect the Show this Window at Startup check box and close the window Classroom Setup Guide 13 ! Apply Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack • Run the setup executable file Install the service pack by using the default options ! Set up the labs Make sure SQL Server 7.0 is running Run Allfiles.exe, which is located on the student CD in the Webfiles\Downloads folder You may also find it also in the same path in the CD_Student folder on the Trainer Materials CD Run SetupLabs.bat, which is located in \Program Files\MSDNTrain\1907\Labs\POApplication This script creates several user accounts and a sample SQL Server database In the VB Script setup complete message box, click OK ! Set up the user environments Repeat this procedure for Administrator, Juan, Pete, Steve, and Nora The first time you run this script, you will already be logged on as Administrator Run Microsoft Internet Explorer In the Internet Connection Wizard dialog box, click Cancel and put a check mark in the Do not show the Internet Connection Wizard in the future check box Then click Yes In the Work Offline dialog box, click Work Offline In Internet Explorer, click Tools and then click Internet Options Type HTTP://Localhost/POSystem into the Home Page Address field If the computer you are configuring can connect to the Internet through the network adaptor, click the Connections tab and then click LAN Settings If you are using the Microsoft Loopback Adaptor, see the note below In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, click Automatically detect settings and then click OK Click OK in the Internet Options dialog box and then close Internet Explorer Log off Windows 2000 Server and then log back on as the next user When all user environments have been set up, log on as Administrator Note If the computer you are configuring is using Microsoft Loopback Adaptor to simulate a network connection, then set up a dummy dialup connection instead of using LAN settings In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Connections tab and then click Add In the Location Information dialog box, enter an area code and then click OK In the Phone and Modem Options dialog box, click OK In the Network Connection Wizard, click Next through each dialog box until the last one, in which you should click Finish In the Dial-up Connection Settings dialog box, click OK In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Connections tab and then select Dial whenever a network connection is not present Click OK in the Internet Options dialog box 14 Classroom Setup Guide ! Prepare for the Module Demonstrations Classroom Setup Guide 15 Run SetupDemos.cmd, which is located in the Democode\Mod04 folder on the Trainer Materials CD Remake the Northwind.DLL via the NorthwindComponent, which is located in the Democode\Mod04 folder on the Trainer Materials CD 16 Classroom Setup Guide Classroom Setup Checklist The Classroom Setup Checklist enables you to: ! Verify that the classroom setup was completed successfully !
