Date of preparation : 11.10.2008 Unit 4 : SCHOOL EDUCATION SYSTEM Date of teaching : 15.10.2008 Period:3 Section: Listening. I AIMS AND OBJECTIVES :  Language content: - To help Ss listen to the conversation between jenny and Gavin talking about What they do at school, - To introduce some new words relating to the topic - Vocabulary : tearaway, disruptive, methodical, well-behaved, stuggle - Structure : the simple present tense, the simple past tense  Language function: - listen for the understanding of the passage. Educational aim : To make the students knowing more about school education system in Vietnam Skill : Integrated skills : listening II. TEACHER AND STUDENTS’ PREPARATION: 1. Method : Communicative Approach. 2. Techniques: Repetition, explanation, group work, asking – answering. 3. Materials needed : Textbook, pictures, real thing. 4 Students’ preparation : Reading the lesson at home, prepare the new words 5 Previous exercises: III. PROCEDURE IN CLASS. 1. Stabilization : (2ms) a. Warm – up : Greetings. b. Checking absence : Who’s absent today ? 2. Checking up previous knowledge: Time needed: (5ms) Questions Key to questions: 3. Warm up : - T asks Ss to look at the sentences in their books Asks Ss to work in pairs ,studying and answering the following questions: + What school subjects are you good at ? + Which ones do you enjoy most / least in your class ? explain why ? - T leads in the new lesson : T- whole class Answer the questions Unit 4 : SCHOOL EDUCATION SYSTEM Period3: Section : Listening 10ms 10ms Today you will listen to the conversation between Jenny and Gavin talking about what they do at school. 2. Pre- listening. - T introduces some new words: + tearaway (n) + disruptive (a) + methodical (a) + well – behaved (a) + struggle (n) - T helps Ss to pronouce the words - T asks Ss to repeat . - T checks understanding( What and where) 3. While- listening Task 1: Listen and tick - T gets Ss to read the questions carefully and work out what information they need to concentrate on while listening. - T plays the tape ( or reads the tapescript) once for Ss to listen and do the task. - T plays the tape two more time and pauses at the answers for Ss to catch. - Calls on some Ss to give the answers Jenny Gavin 1. Task 2- Listen and answer the questions Lets Ss listen to the passage again if needed and ask them to answer the questions - Has Ss compare the results in pairs. - Goes over the answers with the class. 1. When he enjoyed the subject. 2. He found it very difficult. 3. Because they were difficult for him to do it in a short time. 4. Because he went away to boarding school when he quite young and he didn’t like that. So schools weren’t the best days pf his life. 4. After listening - T gets Ss to work in pairs - Tp talk about their school. - T gives Ss the following questions as help. + How do you feel about your school ? ( Do you like it or not ) Work in pairs Copy down Work in pairs 6. Did you think your school days were the best days of your life ? Task 2- Listen and answer the questions 1. When he enjoyed the subject. 2. He found it very difficult. 3. Because they were difficult for him to do it in a short time. 4. Because he went away to boarding school when he quite young and he didn’t like that. So schools weren’t the best days pf his life. + What things do you like and what things don’t you like ?
