Unit9 : Natural disasters Lesson 5 : Writing A. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a story about a typhoon, using the pictures and word cues given. * Teaching aids:  Extra board, pictures B.Content: I. Pre–writing: 1.Warm–up: (Jumbed words) Otnophy - typhoon Damotro - tornado Lacvono - volcano Tearquahke - earthquake Colency - cyclone - Chatting : Do you often prepare for a typhoon, an earthquake…? How about animals ? Can they be aware of natural disasters? What animals are they? 2.Pre–teach vocabulary:  (to) behave : cư xử,ứng xử (translation)  (a) shelter : chỗ trú ngụ (explanation) What is this? It means “ a place of safety”  (n) sky : bầu trời (visual)  (a) circle : vòng tròn (visual)  (adj) scared : sợ, sợ hãi (translation)  All of a sudden = suddenly : bất ngờ, bổng dưng (translation) *Checking: R.O.R 3. Complete he speech bubbles and match them with pictures: Pictures Speech 1. A. “Wow, the wind is strong and the rain is heavy.” 2. B. “Mom, skippy is acting very strage!” 3. C. “Oh, may be he’s afraid of the storm.The weather forecast warned us that there will be a typhoon coming” 4. D. “Everyone should stay in the house.The storm is coming” 5. E. “ Skippy, what are you doing?Why are you running in circles ?” 6. F. “What a good dog, skippy!You rescued me from the storm.” G. “ Come on, skippy.Catch the ball!” - Teacher prepares the speech bubbles on a poster, get students to match them with the pictures on page 80 and fill in the blanks with suitable words. - Correct *Key : 1. While –writing: - Have students write a story individually using the cues in the box (p.79) - Ask students to use past simple tense. - Go round and help students to write III. Post  writing: - Take some writings to correct in front of the class. - Have students correct their partner’s writing. - Get students to write on their notebooks. Expected writing : It was a beautiful day. The Sun was shining, the sky was blue, the weather was perfect. Lan was outside playing with her dog, skippy.All of a sudden, the dog behaved strangely.She kept running around in circles. Lan ran home with her dogs and told her mother what skippy was doing. Lan’s mother, Mrs Quyen told Lan that she heard on TV that there was a typhoon coming. Mrs Quyen gathered her family and told them to find shelter in the home. Suddenly, the sky became very dark. The storm came with strong winds and heavy rain. Mrs Quyen and her family were scared. But soon the storm finished. Everyone was glad. What a clever dog skippy is!
