Objectives - Help sts to read for specific information about a day in the life of a farmer. - By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to talk about their daily routines by learning a typical day of a farmer. Procedure: Steps & time Teacher’s activities Sts’ activities Before reading - Ask sts to work in pairs: Ask and answer questions about their daily routines by using the cues. - Suggested answers: 1, What time do you get up? 2, What time do you often go to school? 3. What time do you often have breakfast/ lunch/ dinner? 4, What time do you often go to bed? 5, What do you often do in the morning/ afternoon/ evening? - Call on one pair to perform in front of class. - Use the picture on page 12 to introduce the lesson. * Vocabulary pre-teach: plough (v) : buffalo (n) : harrow (n) : plot of land (n) : take a short rest : fellow peasants (n) : local tobacco (n) : pump (v) : transpalnt (v) : crop (n) : - Read model each word and ask sts to repeat. While reading - Read aloud the passage one time. - Have sts 2 mns to read the passage in silence. * Task 1 : Choose the option A, B, or C that best suits the meaning of the italicised word(s) Listen and read silently - Ask sts to read through 4 sentences in task 1 and pay attention to the italicised word(s). - Advise sts to read the passage quickly and stop at the line that contain the words to guess the closest meaning. - Have sts 3 mns to do the task. - Call on some sts to read aloud their answers and ask them to explain thier choicce. - Give correct answers: 1.C 2. A * Task 2 : Answer the questions - Ask sts to read through 5 questions and underline key words. - Tell sts to read the passage again and find out the answers. - Ask sts to work in pairs in 3 mns. - Call on some pairs to do the task in front of class. - Write the correct answers on the board. Answers: 1. He’s a farmer. / a peasant. 2. He gets up at 4:30 and then goes down the kitchen to boil some water for his morning tea. 3. In the morning, he ploughs and harrows his plot of land, drinks tea and smoke tobacco during his break. 4. In the afternoon, they repair the banks of their plot of land. He goes to school every morning. Now, look at his weekly timetable on page 15.
